TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s National Railway Museum has been deepening cooperation with Japan’s Railway Museum since the two sides signed an agreement in 2023.
The museums hope to expand the scope and value of their collections and promote digitization of shared archival materials, Cheng Ming-chang (鄭銘彰), director of the NRM preparatory office, said on Saturday, according to CNA. They also aim to boost personnel exchanges and collaborate in exhibitions and research.
In February, the museums organized an exhibition on the food culture of Taiwan’s Railways. Cheng hoped future projects would draw from both museums’ resources.
Cheng said that Japan’s Railway Museum has valuable historical materials, such as gazettes and timetables from Taiwan’s Japanese colonial period. He planned to launch a digital archiving initiative next year.
The director added that future collaboration could include co-curated exhibitions in Taiwan, joint academic workshops, and railway symposiums, allowing researchers from both sides to exchange knowledge. Such initiatives would be an opportunity to showcase NRM's research capabilities on the international stage, he said.
