TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Eastern Taiwan experienced a magnitude 5 earthquake at 7:52 a.m. on Wednesday, according to the Central Weather Administration.
The epicenter was located 6.9 kilometers west of Hualien County Hall at a depth of 6.1 kilometers, the CWA said.
Taiwan uses a scale of 1 to 7 to measure a quake's intensity at a specific location. The quake registered a 4 in Hualien County.
A level 3 was recorded in Nantou County. A level 2 was reported in Taichung, Yilan County, and Yunlin County.
An intensity level of 1 was measured in Taitung County, Taoyuan, Chiayi County, Hsinchu County, Changhua County, Miaoli County, Chiayi, New Taipei, Tainan, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung County.
