TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — President Lai Ching-te (賴清德) has reappointed Presidential Office Senior Adviser and Taiwania Capital Chair Lin Hsin-i (林信義) to represent Taiwan at the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting in Gyeongju, South Korea, which will be held from Oct. 31–Nov. 1.
Presidential Office Spokesperson Karen Kuo (郭雅慧) said Lai made the decision after a careful review, citing Lin’s familiarity with APEC procedures and agenda management, per CNA. Lin previously served as Taiwan’s representative in 2005 and again in 2024.
South Korea’s theme for the event, “Building a Sustainable Tomorrow,” is organized around three priorities: connection, innovation, and prosperity. This refers to trade and investment linkages, digital innovation and cooperation in artificial intelligence, as well as sustainable and inclusive growth, according to UDN.
The Presidential Office linked those priorities to Lai’s policy track, saying the summit’s emphasis on AI and demographic challenges dovetails with plans to develop an “AI Island” and the “Healthy Taiwan” vision. Related initiatives include support for AI chips, smart manufacturing, smart healthcare, and digital governance.
The office added that Lin’s long experience in industry and economic policy — combining strategy-setting with execution — positions him to present Taiwan’s agenda, per LTN.
Lin serves as a senior adviser to the president and chairs Taiwania Capital, a state-backed investment management firm focused on technology and strategic industries.
