TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan’s representative offices in New York and Chicago hosted Double Ten receptions this week, pairing community events with updates on US–Taiwan ties.
In Manhattan, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in New York held a National Day reception on the Upper East Side that drew about 500 guests from local government, the overseas Taiwanese community, and the diplomatic corps. The program opened with a lion dance, and organizers thanked allies for support voiced during the UN General Assembly, per CNA.
Speakers in New York cited steady movement on practical cooperation. They pointed to House passage in January of a Taiwan–US double-tax relief bill and to new city and education links, including sister-jurisdiction ties and an education memorandum with the Connecticut State Department of Education.
Air links were part of the New York program. China Airlines said it will launch Phoenix–Taipei nonstops on Dec. 3 and plans to add New York frequencies next year as North American demand rises.
In Chicago, TECO’s reception took place Oct. 6 at the Union League Club with nearly 400 attendees from Midwestern state and city offices, business and academia, and several consulates, per CNA. Organizers said Midwestern elected officials sent congratulatory letters in addition to those present at the event.
The Chicago program featured remarks on Taiwan’s outreach and economic links. TECO highlighted Taiwan’s position on the first island chain and the importance of stable shipping through the Taiwan Strait, while noting ongoing values-based, allied, and trade diplomacy.
Diplomatic guests in Chicago included consuls general from Guatemala, Haiti, Belgium, and Costa Rica. Exhibitors and community groups joined the reception alongside local partners.
