TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — New Taipei Mayor Hou You-yi said the city’s Light Green Line is 81.7% complete and is on track to open in 2027.
New Taipei’s MRT projects are advancing on seven lines simultaneously, per CNA. The Light Green Line, or Wanda-Zhonghe-Shulin Line, spans about 9.5 kilometers with nine underground stations and one depot.
During his visit to Jincheng Depot, Hou said all 18 tunnels are fully excavated and station and depot structures are mostly complete. Construction now focuses on station interiors, electrical and water systems, environmental control systems, and track installation.
Roads surrounding the line are expected to be restored and reopened to the public by the end of 2026. Hou estimated that the new line would be fully operational by the end of 2027.
Jincheng Depot, at the junction of Banqiao, Zhonghe, and Tucheng, is a five-level facility handling train storage, maintenance, testing, servicing, and dispatch. Its second underground level accommodates 36 trains, enough for 19 Wanda-Zhonghe trains and 16 Tucheng-Shulin trains.
Hou added that the first train, delivered from Brazil last October, has completed static testing. Signal and communication testing is underway, with six more trains expected at the depot by year’s end.
Lee Cheng-an, head of New Taipei’s Department of Rapid Transit Systems, said the depot includes Juguang Station, about 120 meters from Taishan-Banqiao Light Rail F28 Station, enabling a one-minute transfer. Once operational, commuting from Zhonghe Senior High School Station to Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall Station will take just 14 minutes.
