TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an (蔣萬安) met the candidates for the KMT chair election on Wednesday as the party prepares to vote on Saturday, CNA reported.
Hau Lung-bin (郝龍斌) posted a photo with Chiang on Wednesday. He said in his Facebook post that Chiang called him “an ideal candidate” for party chair, acknowledging his ability to reach consensus.
Later in the day, candidates Lo Chih-chiang (羅智強) and Cheng Li-wun (鄭麗文) also posted about their meetings with Chiang. They thanked Chiang for his support.
Lo said he and Chiang fought side by side during the recall campaign. He said they both believe that party unity is key to regaining political power.
Cheng said she worked with Chiang before in the legislature during the COVID pandemic and the US pork import debates. She said their long friendship was built on teamwork, and she hopes it will continue if elected.
All six candidates are still campaigning amid recent allegations of Chinese interference. They appeared together on Wednesday at a business forum to present their take on cross-strait relations, Liberty Times reported.
Candidate Tsai Chih-hung (蔡志弘) said he is “personally against Taiwan's independence,” opposing former President Lee Teng-hui's (李登輝) “two-state theory.” Cho Po-yuan (卓伯源) similarly reiterated his support for a “One China” policy.
Candidate Chang Ya-chung (張亞中) called for renewed dialogue between Taiwan and China. He also proposed to revive the National Unification Guidelines, which were written in 1991.
