TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Premier Cho Jung-tai (卓榮泰) said Thursday (Oct. 16) the government will soon launch a labor force review to reshape how foreign workers are brought in, per CNA.
Cho met with Taiwan’s Manufacturers United General Association of Industrial Park at the Cabinet and said the review will assess how quickly — and how many — foreign workers Taiwan should bring in.
The Ministry of Labor (勞動部) has completed its evaluation and will present the findings soon, Cho said, adding the review will also determine which sectors should receive priority under the new system.
Cho also outlined stronger government support for land use, workforce training, and net-zero transformation. He said small and medium-sized firms will receive technical assistance and resources to adopt digital and green practices.
Taiwan currently hosts about 850,000 migrant workers as of August, per the labor ministry. Officials said the upcoming reform will include measurable goals and be announced publicly in the near future.
Cho emphasized that Taiwan must stay competitive while ensuring fair job opportunities for local workers. He said the labor review aims to create a balanced system that helps employers and employees adapt to changing conditions.
