TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Former President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) on Thursday joined Kaohsiung’s Blackpink craze by posting a digitally edited photo of herself with pink hair, joking that the look might not really suit her.
The South Korean girl group will perform in Kaohsiung on Oct. 18 and 19 at the National Stadium, and to welcome their fans, six of the city’s landmarks have been lit in the band’s signature pink. On Wednesday, Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) also changed his profile picture on Instagram, Threads, and other platforms to show himself with pink hair, per SET News.
Tsai followed suit the next day by posting an AI-generated photo of herself with pink hair on Threads. She said someone had sent her the image, but emphasized it was “not Chen Chi-mai.”
She then jokingly asked, “Pink… it doesn't really suit me, does it?” Netizens praised Tsai’s playful post, saying the pink hair made her look younger and stylish, while challenging her to try K-pop dance moves now that she’s no longer president.
Since their 2016 debut, Blackpink has taken the world by storm with multiple hit singles. The four-member group will return to Kaohsiung’s National Stadium for two sold-out shows this weekend.
Each evening, Kaohsiung’s Love River, Great Harbor Bridge, Kaohsiung Port Cruise Terminal, Kaohsiung Music Center, Kaohsiung Station, and Formosa Boulevard Station will be illuminated in pink to support the group.
