TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — WeatherRisk Director Chia Hsin-hsing (賈新興) predicted that the combined effects of Tropical Storm Fengshen and a northeast monsoon will bring heavy rain to north Taiwan through Tuesday.
Chia said that the northeast monsoon will affect Taiwan through Oct. 27, per UDN, with a chance of heavy rain in Yilan and mountains north of Taoyuan. The Central Weather Administration on Monday issued advisories for torrential rain in Taipei and New Taipei, extremely heavy rain in Taoyuan, Keelung, and Yilan County, and heavy rain in Hsinchu County and Taitung County.
He forecasted that the outer bands of Fengshen and the northeast monsoon would have the strongest effect from Monday to Tuesday. The heaviest rain will be concentrated in Yilan, New Taipei, and the mountain areas of Taipei.
From Wednesday to Thursday, the northeast monsoon and a low-pressure system will bring scattered showers from Hsinchu northward and in Yilan and Hualien. On Friday, brief showers are likely from Taoyuan northward and in Yilan, with afternoon showers in central mountainous regions and in Hualien and Taitung.
The north and northeast will see cooler temperatures throughout the week, with highs around 25–26 C and lows in coastal areas near 21 C.
