TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai (陳其邁) said the city will deliver its best-ever Halloween celebration, promising “a more spectacular event than before,” per CNA.
Chen said last year’s 22-meter-tall giant pumpkin will return with a new 360-degree light show, upgraded from last year’s 270 degrees. He added that the expanded display will feature more vivid lighting and creative scenes.
The city will also host a Halloween parade with the Leofoo Village “tombstone” team on Nov. 1 and give away 10,000 inflatable wristbands. Chen said Kaohsiung welcomes families nationwide to enjoy the festivities.
The Kaohsiung Education Bureau said this year’s event will expand, with local schools and communities taking part. Celebration events include a Halloween market, costume parade, themed booths, and decorations.
Kaohsiung’s Halloween celebration kicks off on Oct. 31 at the National Kaohsiung Center for the Arts. Attendees are encouraged to use public transport to reduce traffic congestion.
Last year’s Halloween parade at Aozidi Forest Park in Kaohsiung attracted an estimated 80,000 participants. Kaohsiung Mayor Chen Chi-mai and American Institute in Taiwan Kaohsiung Branch Chief Neil H. Gibson were present.
