TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Google rolled out its “Gemini Ignite” AI training program in Taiwan in January, attracting more than 100,000 participants to date as part of an initiative to promote AI adoption among students and professionals.
Tina Lin (林雅芳), managing director for sales and operations at Google Taiwan, said nearly 40% of adults worldwide will need new job skills within the next five years, with AI at the heart of this transformation. She added that close to 70% of business leaders prefer hiring candidates with AI-related skills, per CNA.
The program focuses on foundational AI skills, advanced applications, and innovative uses of AI, aligning with a Digital Education Council survey across 16 countries that found 86% of students use AI software to support their learning.
To promote AI integration in schools, Google has organized workshops for more than 3,000 teachers in Taiwan. The program trains educators to use tools such as Gems, a customizable AI helper; Canvas, a space for visual planning and idea sharing; and NotebookLM, a tool that helps simplify complex information.
This year, Google partnered with PanSci and the Association for Digital Culture of Taiwan to launch online courses aimed at building AI literacy among students. The courses encourage good usage habits, such as verifying sources and checking content accuracy. To date, they have received more than 50,000 views and issued over 800 certifications.
Google has also supported 424 journalists in using NotebookLM for in-depth reporting and fact-checking. In addition, the company has introduced generative-AI tools in its training programs to help marketing professionals enhance advertising effectiveness.
For IT professionals, Google launched programs to help more than 5,400 developers and enterprise users build with Google AI Studio and Vertex AI.
The company’s “Cloud OnBoard” online event, focused on large language models, drew more than 1,400 developers and aimed to strengthen skills in application development and big-data analytics.
