TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Major retailers across Taiwan on Wednesday reassured consumers that pork supplies are safe and stable after the Ministry of Agriculture imposed a five-day nationwide ban on pig slaughter and transport following a suspected African swine fever outbreak at a Taichung farm.
PX Mart and Mega PX said their fresh pork supply remains stable, sourced from traceable contract farms and certified slaughterhouses, per Liberty Times. All slaughtering processes follow regulations and are overseen by on-site veterinarians to ensure food safety.
Carrefour said it has sufficient pork stocks and will maintain stable supply levels. Its chilled and frozen Taiwanese pork products come from traceable contract farms, with strict controls over pig growth, health, and production standards.
It said the entire production process complies with regulations, and qualified slaughterhouses are regularly inspected. All food safety standards are strictly followed to provide customers with safe and reliable meat products.
A.mart said pork sold at its stores mainly comes from Taiwan Sugar Corp. and legally registered pig farms in Pingtung County. All products have undergone government inspections and comply with regulations for preventing animal diseases.
The retailer pledged to closely monitor government announcements and adjust procurement and sales sources according to official policies to ensure food safety and consumer confidence. It also said it will maintain a stable supply to meet consumer demand.
