TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Rakuten Monkeys defeated the CTBC Brothers 3-1 in Game 4 of the Taiwan Series at Taoyuan Baseball Stadium on Sunday, moving one win away from the championship.
The game was tied 1-1 until the bottom of the eighth inning, when Monkeys outfielder Chen Chen-wei (陳晨威) hit a two-run homer to right field, securing the victory and giving the Monkeys a 3-1 lead in the best-of-seven series, per CNA.
The first three games of the series were held at Taipei Dome, with Game 4 moving outdoors, encountering delays for several days due to persistent rain. The matchup was eventually held at the Monkeys’ home field in Taoyuan, where a sellout crowd of 18,000 attended.
Monkeys opened the scoring in the third, with Sung Jia-xiang (宋嘉翔) and Cheng Chin (成晉) hitting singles and a fielding error by Brothers catcher Kao Yu-chieh (高宇杰) allowing a run to score. The Brothers answered in the top of the fourth when Hsu Chi-hong (許基宏) hit a solo home run to even the game.

The Brothers threatened again in the sixth inning with runners on first and third and no outs, but Monkeys starting pitcher Pedro Fernandez escaped the jam by striking out three consecutive batters.
Fernandez threw 101 pitches over six innings, allowing four hits, two walks, and one run, while striking out 10. Reliever Chen Kuan-yu (陳冠宇) earned the win.
Brothers' starter Nivaldo Rodríguez also pitched well, throwing 95 pitches across seven innings and allowing four hits, two walks, and two runs (one earned) with seven strikeouts, but was tagged with the loss.

All four games of the Taiwan Series have been played before sellout crowds, with cumulative attendance reaching 135,088. Game 5 will take place on Monday at the Brothers’ home stadium, Taichung Intercontinental Baseball Stadium, where the Monkeys will look to secure the championship.
