TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Former Vice Premier Lin Hsin-i (林信義) pledged on Tuesday to convey President Lai Ching-te’s key messages at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation leaders’ summit in South Korea.
Lin, whom Lai tapped to attend the meeting, said he would promote Taiwan’s strengths and experiences in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, smart healthcare, and small and medium-sized enterprises, according to the Presidential Office. He hoped to share Taiwan’s achievements and foster greater collaboration to elevate the country’s standing within APEC.
Taiwan’s economic experience and other strengths enable it to play a pivotal role in APEC and to work with other members to achieve the forum’s goals of sustainable and innovative growth, Lin said. He added that Taiwan has made important contributions to the forum through its active engagement over the years.
Lin emphasized that participation in the summit was a rare and significant opportunity, where Taiwan could engage on equal footing with other member economies.
Lin departed Taiwan on Tuesday afternoon. The meeting will take place in Gyeongju from Oct. 31 to Nov. 1.
