TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The National Security Bureau condemned Beijing’s “long-arm jurisdiction” and “transnational repression” in a report published on Wednesday.
The NSB called these tactics politically motivated, aimed at annexing Taiwan, per CNA. Beijing employs threats and interference across political, economic, social, cultural, and military spheres to diplomatically isolate Taiwan, weaken its sovereign status, and foster psychological fear and internal division within Taiwan, it said.
The report comes after China’s Chongqing Municipal Public Security Bureau announced it is investigating DPP Legislator Puma Shen (沈柏洋), a co-founder of Kuma Academy, for secessionist activities. Shen brushed off the investigation, saying, “Taiwanese aren’t afraid anyway.”
The NSB vowed to continue collecting information on Beijing’s use of local collaborators or criminal groups to harass or endanger specific individuals or businesses in Taiwan and take preventive measures. The bureau also requested the National Police Agency to bolster security deployments.
For legal countermeasures against Chinese infiltration, the NSB said it would coordinate national intelligence teams to track organizations and individuals that spread intimidation messages, report to Beijing, or cooperate with China’s sanctions. These actions violate Taiwan’s National Security Act, National Intelligence Service Law, Criminal Code, and the Personal Data Protection Act, the bureau said.
The bureau said it also maintains close communication with friendly nations and like-minded partners to strengthen intelligence sharing and collaboration and identify Chinese operations.
