TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Representative to Finland Freddy Lim (林昶佐) on Tuesday shared Taiwan’s experience in countering disinformation and foreign influence operations at the two-day Cyber Security Nordic forum in Stockholm.
Lim outlined the efforts made by Taiwan’s Cabinet and Legislative Yuan to combat such threats, CNA reported. He highlighted the growth of Taiwan’s civil society over the past decade, noting that many civic organizations have emerged with different focuses to address cognitive warfare.
Through collaboration, they have strengthened Taiwan’s societal resilience, Lim said. However, he cautioned that the situation remains challenging as authoritarian regimes continue to advance their use of technology.
Lim said that, like all authoritarian regimes, China seeks to undermine the foundations of democratic nations and reshape the international order in a way that serves to consolidate the interests of autocratic powers. He praised Finland’s citizens for their strong information and media literacy.
Cyber Security Nordic is the largest event in the region dedicated to information security and cognitive warfare. This year’s themes included risk management and cooperation, digital security in Europe, and the intersection of democracy and digital policy.
Lim said in a Facebook post that "the discussion was both inspiring and productive, and all participants agreed that there is great potential for closer collaboration between Taiwan and Finland.”
