TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Lion Travel expects to earn NT$300 million (US$9.68 million) in AI-related revenue next year as Taiwan’s tourism industry rides a post-pandemic rebound.
Speaking at ITF Taipei International Travel Fair on Friday, Lion Travel Chair Wang Wen-chieh (王文傑) said the company believes the government’s NT$10,000 handout will boost travel demand, per CNA. The company’s exhibition space this year is its largest ever, signaling confidence in the market’s recovery.
Lion Travel President Huang Hsin-chuan (黃信川) said this year will mark a major turning point for the industry as AI transforms travel services. Traditional package tours are being replaced by personalized small-group trips, he said, noting that AI adoption has improved efficiency and engagement.
Since introducing AI tools, Lion Travel has seen rapid growth, generating over NT$20 million in revenue in just two months. Huang said the company aims to expand AI use across operations to reach NT$300 million this year.
The company added that extended school holidays and the Lunar New Year holiday have driven demand for overseas travel, particularly to Europe and Asia-Africa routes. Winter bookings to Europe tripled year-on-year, while destinations such as Egypt, Turkey, and Dubai saw nearly 80% growth.
