TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan People’s Party Chair Huang Kuo-chang (黃國昌) on Monday commented on Kuomintang Chair Cheng Li-wun (鄭麗文) attending a pro-unification 228 Massacre commemoration event.
Huang echoed Cheng’s assessment, saying Wu Shih (吳石), a former KMT military officer later identified as a Chinese Communist Party spy, should not be considered a victim of political violence, per UDN. He added that Cheng has already faced criticism from within the KMT over her participation.
Huang said the TPP remains committed to protecting Taiwan’s freedom, democracy, rule of law, and human rights, describing these values as non-negotiable.
Media commentator Chang Ling-yu (詹凌瑀) criticized Huang for what she viewed as his overly lenient response to Cheng’s actions, per Liberty Times. Chang argued that Huang tends to direct his hostility primarily toward the Democratic Progressive Party and members of the media.
