TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — DPP Legislator Puma Shen (沈伯洋) said Monday he will not yield to Chinese pressure after CCTV threatened his apprehension.
Reports say Chongqing police recently opened an investigation into Shen, labeled a “hardline pro-independence” figure by the CCP, per CNA. On Nov. 9, Chinese state media CCTV released a video warning of potential arrest abroad.
Speaking at the Legislative Yuan, Shen described China’s actions as salami slicing, progressing from warnings to intimidation without a clear timeline, per TVBS.
He said the CCTV video serves as domestic propaganda to divert attention amid China’s economic instability. He added that it shifts international focus away from positive responses to Taiwan leaders’ overseas visits.
On concerns about travel abroad, Shen said he is unbothered, describing China’s main goal as psychological warfare to pressure politicians and military personnel. He vowed to continue his work without fear.
Asked whether China might target other politicians similarly, Shen said such targeting is not limited to him. He said that even before entering politics he faced pressure, and that others who advocate for human rights in China face similar risks.
