TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Former vice presidential candidate Jaw Shaw-kong (趙少康) on Tuesday urged Kuomintang Chair Cheng Li-wun (鄭麗文) to proceed with caution after she attended a 228 Massacre memorial organized by a pro-unification group.
Cheng clarified that the organizers did not mention Wu Shih (吳石) — a former high-ranking KMT officer later revealed as a Chinese Communist Party spy — as part of the commemoration, per CNA. Referring to her statement, Jaw said party members should trust her judgment and take her at her word.
Jaw also warned against missteps in cross-strait relations, particularly during election season. He said that because all voters are Taiwanese, the KMT must prioritize Taiwan’s interests and future above all else.
KMT official He Ying-lu (何鷹鷺) also weighed in, saying Cheng should keep the bigger picture in mind as the party navigates sensitive political issues, per Liberty Times.
