TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Esports player WithoutYou became Taiwan’s first Teamfight Tactics world champion after winning the finals at the TFT Vegas Open on Sunday.
The gamer claimed the title with a dominant finals run and took home NT$4.6 million (US$150,000), securing the biggest victory of his competitive career, per Liberty Times.
TFT, an auto battler set in the League of Legends universe, focuses on composition building and unit positioning, per CNA. The Vegas Open serves as TFT’s de facto world championship.
The tournament followed a checkmate format in which a player who reached 20 points and then won a round would immediately claim the championship. If no player closed out after eight rounds, the highest overall scorer would take the title.
After the match, he said he never imagined winning a world title in his first international outing. He added that he stayed calm and relied on strong teamwork.
WithoutYou thanked his family, staff, and fellow competitors, saying the region’s rising skill level makes the victory even more meaningful. Describing his win with humility, he said he was “just the one at the front of the ship who happened to arrive at the harbor first.”
