TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Vice President Hsiao Bi-khim (蕭美琴) lauded cooperation between Taiwan and Japan during a meeting with a visiting delegation of Japanese engineers on Thursday.
The delegation was in Taiwan for the 35th Taiwan–Japan Engineering Technology Conference on Monday.
Hsiao noted that over the years, the annual conference has made outstanding contributions to a wide range of shared technological and engineering issues — from environmental engineering and human-centered technology to the development of smart technologies, per the Presidential Office. She highlighted recent cooperation in disaster-prevention technology and engineering, which has strengthened disaster resilience and security in both countries.
She said Taiwan and Japan will have many opportunities for future cooperation in advanced technologies, such as satellite development and resilient communication systems, as well as in addressing common global challenges.
Hsiao emphasized that the bilateral friendship is rooted in geographic proximity and shared values of freedom, democracy, and a commitment to regional peace and stability. There is also a shared resolve to be “problem solvers” in the face of current global dynamics, she added.
The vice president said she hopes engineers from both sides will take the lead in fields such as space, maritime affairs, and other strategic domains such as industrial development.
