TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Karin M. Lang, deputy director of the American Institute in Taiwan, lauded Taiwan-US trade ties at an American State Offices Association event on Monday.
ASOA is a platform for US state offices in Taiwan to deepen bilateral trade and investment.
Lang said 2025 has been a "remarkable year" so far, with “record high investment announcements,” totaling over NT$3.14 trillion (US$100 billion). She said that three Taiwanese industry delegations visited multiple US states earlier this year and the missions were “very well received.” Meanwhile, delegations from more than 20 states visited Taiwan for investment talks.
Regarding agriculture, Lang said that the bilateral partnership was “thriving.” In 2024, the US exported approximately US$4 billion in food and agricultural products to Taiwan, the US’ eighth-largest agriculture export market.
The deputy director said that events like the USA pavilion at Food Taipei have been successful in promoting trade. This year, the pavilion generated over NT$408.44 million in projected sales and featured participation from more than 10 state offices, she said, which is “a clear demonstration of the impact” of Taiwan-US cooperation.
She said that the US also participated in Bio Asia, Semicon Taiwan, Taipei Aerospace and Defense Exhibition, and the Taipei International Travel Fair this year. “This surge of activity highlights the essential role that ASOA and its members play in connecting our two economies,” she said.
Lang said AIT supported Taiwan’s desire to open a science and technology park in the US, “which will help bring in more Taiwanese suppliers into the US market and reinforce Taiwan’s vital role in global supply chains.” She added that two or three new state offices would soon open in Taipei.
On future collaboration, Lang said, “AIT looks forward to building on this momentum in the coming year and to continue to work together to advance trade, investment, and prosperity in the US and Taiwan.”
