TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Taitung County Government on Thursday held a press conference to demonstrate results from its yearlong push to build a local sustainable tourism chain.
According to the government, it has worked with 30 businesses to help them cut carbon use and design sustainable travel products. County Magistrate April Yao (饒慶鈴) said the county wants tourism to grow in a steady, long-term way.
Yao said the program covered food, hospitality, tourism, and shopping. She said workshops, carbon checks, and sustainability planning helped launch 11 new slow-travel routes and support several applications for green labels.
The county’s tourism department director, Pu Min-cheng (卜敏正), said the press conference helps visitors see how slow travel works. Pu said the display highlighted progress in areas such as cutting plastic waste, upgrading equipment, and using local farm products.
Taitung County Government hosted the event at its auditorium and invited several businesses to share their results. Officials said the county backed businesses with training, certification help, and plans for greener equipment, per CNA.
