TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The military will carry out live-fire training at the Taimali River estuary in Taitung next month.
According to a Fisheries Agency notice, the drills will take place between 6 a.m. and 8 a.m. on Dec. 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, and 11. The military has cordoned off a zone with a maximum projectile altitude of 5,486 meters and a minimum radius of 11 kilometers.
During the drills, the military will dispatch liaison officers to control towers and security checkpoints at Kaohsiung, Fengnian, Chihhang, Dongti, and Sanhe, as well as to maritime stations. The firing will involve indirect-fire weapons, and the timing and projectile altitude will not affect flight operations or takeoffs and landings.
Military sources said tanks, machine guns, and mortars will be used so troops can familiarize themselves with a battlefield environment and verify their coastal combat readiness, per CNA.
The National Chung Shan Institute of Science and Technology will conduct artillery test-firing and unmanned systems reconnaissance from Dec. 10 to 12 and Dec. 16 to 19 at the Jiupeng base, according to a separate Fisheries Agency notice.
One firing zone is located along the Jiupeng coastline, with a maximum projectile altitude of about 7,620 meters. Another zone extends eastward toward the waters east of Green Island and Orchid Island, with a maximum projectile altitude of 8,229 meters.
