TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport’s Terminal 3 is set to begin trial operations on Monday.
The new terminal, which was initially planned to open in September, will welcome the first passengers to the North Concourse on Dec. 1, per CNA. The North Concourse will add an additional eight gates to facilitate international air travel.
In a public statement, Deputy Minister of Transportation Lin Kuo-shian (林國顯) said the eight new gates will expand the airport’s annual service capacity by about 5.8 million passengers. Once the other concourses are completed, Terminal 3 will be able to accommodate an additional 45 million passengers annually, increasing the airport’s service capacity to over 80 million per year.
CNA shared photos of the North Concourse gates, which were designed by the internationally renowned architecture firm of Richard Rogers. The design features high ceilings and glass walls to maximize natural light.
Coffee shops and restaurants have already moved into the concourse and are ready to serve travelers.
Due to ongoing construction, check-in and security procedures must still be completed at Terminal 2. After passing through immigration, travelers can reach Terminal 3 via walkway or shuttle in less than 20 minutes. Passengers disembarking at Terminal 3 will also need to collect their luggage from Terminal 2 for the time being.
