TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Taiwan delegation took part in the Guadalajara International Book Fair in Mexico with nearly 100 works to cultivate the Spanish-language publishing market and promote Taiwanese titles, CNA reported Tuesday.
According to the Taiwan Creative Content Agency (TAICCA), the book fair began Saturday and will run through Dec. 7. The agency brought together 25 publishers and nearly 100 works to help copyright holders meet foreign partners.
TAICCA Chair Sue Wang (王時思) said the Spanish-language publishing market holds strong potential, and the agency has been bringing authors with Spanish-language works to the fair. She said the agency aims to raise visibility by hosting events and building local ties with bookstores, schools, and arts groups.
Illustrator Hsueh Hui-ying (薛慧瑩) joined a talk with creators from Mexico and Spain to share how she works and how pictures can tell stories. Hsueh also attended a networking dinner where she met artists from Europe and Latin America.
Cartoonist Ting Po-yen (丁柏晏) took part in three forums where he exchanged ideas with local comic creators and spoke about how Japanese comics shaped his style. Ting also discussed how new technology is changing games, dreams, and daily life.
TAICCA also teamed up with Mexican art platform YoungCollectors to host talks where Hsueh and Ting will swap ideas with local creators. Their works will go on display at the group’s gallery so visitors can get a closer look at Taiwan’s visual art.
The Guadalajara International Book Fair is expected to host 3,000 events and draw 18,000 publishing professionals this year. It remains a key hub for Spanish-language publishing, which spans more than 20 countries and about 500 million speakers.
