TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Japanese food manufacturer Ezaki Glico on Sunday announced a voluntary recall of 6 million units of chocolate products, including Pocky Chocolate, due to flavor abnormalities, per CNA.
According to a Food and Drug Administration press release, the recalled items include Pocky Winter Exclusive Chocolate Sticks expiring in June 2026 and Glico 8-Pack Chocolate Flavor Sticks with expiration dates in May, June, and July 2026.
Liao Tzu-ting (廖姿婷), a senior technical specialist at the FDA’s Food Division, said four batches totaling 2,198 kilograms are affected by the recall. She said the issue was caused by raw cocoa beans being stored near spices, which altered the product’s original flavor and aroma.
Liao said the FDA has contacted importers and instructed them to follow the Japanese manufacturer’s recall request. Consumers who purchased the affected products are advised to contact the company listed on the product label.
The FDA reminded businesses that under Article 7 of the Food Safety and Sanitation Management Act, food companies must implement self-management to ensure hygiene and safety. If a product is found to pose a risk, businesses must immediately stop manufacturing, processing, and sales, initiate a recall, and report the case to the local competent authority.
