TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taipower has rolled out a paperless counter program in Taichung with support from Far EasTone to slash waste and accelerate digital transformation.
Taipower selected its Taichung office, the branch with the highest customer volume, as its pilot site, per CNA. It tasked Far EasTone with building and operating the paperless system.
Far EasTone said rising costs for paper storage, personnel management, and stricter audits have challenged physical service counters. It explained that digitizing Taichung’s more than 150,000 annual customer cases could save over 450,000 sheets of paper a year and reduce nearly 2,800 kg of carbon emissions.
The switch to tablets and digital signature pads also improves case handling and reduces administrative burden, the company added.
Far EasTone Executive Vice President Tseng Shih-yuan (曾詩淵) said the company leverages big data and AI for low-carbon measures. He noted that the telecom adopted electronic forms across its stores in 2009 and introduced fully digital self-service forms in 2020.
Taipower said it plans to expand digital services to more branches, integrate AI and big data, and develop sustainable services.
