TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung (林佳龍) is believed to have visited the American Institute in Taiwan in Arlington, Virginia and was reportedly seen at a nearby hotel, unconfirmed media reports said Saturday.
Taiwan’s representative office in Washington, D.C., and the US State Department did not comment on the reports. Lin was seen Friday morning at the Hyatt Centric Hotel in Arlington, a two-minute walk from the institute, CNA reported.
If the visit took place, it was a first by a senior serving Taiwan government member since US President Donald Trump signed the Taiwan Assurance Implementation Act on Dec. 2, per Liberty Times.
The institute’s Taipei-based director, Raymond Greene, was also seen in the area, as were officials from Taiwan’s mission. The Liberty Times report also mentioned the Pax Silica Summit organized by the State Department Friday.
However, Taiwan was not mentioned on its website, and there was no direct evidence that Lin attended the event focusing on safe global supply chains, or a welcome dinner scheduled for Thursday evening.
