TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Changhua County will open its fourth wastewater treatment center in Hemei Township in 2026, and it will treat 3,000 tonnes of sewage a day.
According to the Changhua County Government, the center should help clear up odors from home and city drains. Officials said the facility has the capacity to treat sewage from around 5,000 homes a day.
County Magistrate Wang Huei-mei (王惠美) said the full sewer project costs more than NT$4.1 billion (US$130 million) and work is moving ahead in stages. Wang noted that the main pipeline work wrapped up in September 2023.
Officials said the wastewater treatment center will serve about 2,700 households once it starts up.
The county government said the site covers about three hectares and will also open rooftop space for people to walk around. Green buffer zones will be set up around the facility for residents to use.
Changhua County currently has three wastewater treatment centers in operation, located in Changhua City, Lukang Township, and Erlin Township, per Storm Media.
