TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — New Taipei City on Friday launched Taiwan’s first artificial intelligence system to review traffic impact and maintenance plans, slashing review times from more than two weeks to just half a day.
The city's transport department said the system checks written reports first and flags problems fast, so staff can move on more quickly. It said the tool helps handle more than 300 cases a year.
Transport Department Senior Specialist Lin Chao-hsien (林昭賢) said the AI tool takes pressure off staff and keeps roads safer during construction and operation. He said workers can now focus more on real traffic risks instead of paperwork.
“Artificial intelligence is key to making city operations run smoother and faster,” Transport Department Commissioner Chung Ming-shih (鍾鳴時) said. He noted that more tools are on the way, including help for site checks, smart customer service, and a voice assistant for traffic control centers.
The department said the AI system is a major step in New Taipei’s smart transport blueprint. It added the system will get stronger as more data is collated, per Commercial Times.
