TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Keelung City officials visited Japan in mid-December to learn about disaster prevention, firefighting, and wide-area emergency response.
According to the Keelung City Government, the delegation traveled to Fukuoka Prefecture and nearby areas to study local disaster systems, command centers, and flood control plans. The goal was to bring back ideas to help Keelung deal with floods, fires, and extreme weather.
The delegation met officials in Okawa City to discuss how local governments work with communities on disaster plans. Okawa Mayor Eto Yoshiyuki said regular training and public participation help people respond faster in emergencies.
The delegation also toured regional fire departments to see how Japan shares staff, trucks, and gear across city lines. The system helps crews support each other when major disasters or multiple incidents happen at once.
Keelung officials said they plan to incorporate the ideas into local disaster policy, firefighter training, and joint drills. They said the visit also helped strengthen ties between Keelung and Japanese partners.
