TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — A Foreign Affairs and National Defense Committee delegation led by DPP Legislator Wang Ting-yu (王定宇) visited Penghu to inspect Army and Navy units and gain a better understanding of operations.
The group first stopped by an air defense missile company under the Penghu Defense Command for a briefing, according to the Military News Agency. They toured the command and discussed troop combat readiness training and combat capabilities.
The delegation later visited the Navy’s Magong Logistics Support Command, where they received a briefing on the unit’s missions and recent activities. Wang raised issues about the living conditions and welfare of service members, hoping the defense ministry would continue to improve supportive measures so troops can fully focus on their training and duties.
The defense ministry’s administrative deputy head, surnamed Yang (楊), said the military would continue to bolster readiness and troop welfare to maintain combat capability and safeguard national security. Earlier this month, Wang visited the Army's artillery training command in Tainan to learn about the unit’s cooperation with civilian academic institutions in sharing educational resources.
The defense ministry announced last week that the armed forces will carry out decentralized operations without waiting for orders in the event of a Chinese attack. The ministry said it is closely monitoring key early-warning indicators of Chinese military activities targeting Taiwan and assessing troop movements to enhance rapid response.
