TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taichung Economic Development Bureau Deputy Commissioner Lin Min-chi (林敏棋) recently led a city delegation to Japan’s Hiroshima Prefecture to explore industry cooperation.
Taichung City government said Tuesday that the delegation met with Hiroshima Prefecture Industry and Labor Department Director Umeda Yasuo. The two sides exchanged views on industrial development, innovation, and city management.
Umeda shared Hiroshima’s work on carbon reduction, including carbon capture, reuse, and circular carbon technologies. Taichung officials said the ideas could shape future technology and industry partnerships.
“Taichung and Hiroshima both rely on manufacturing, with strong overlap in automobiles, machinery and semiconductors,” Lin said. He added that the visit helped the team see how Hiroshima upgrades factories, supports startups, and advances net-zero plans.
The delegation also visited the Hiroshima Innovation Center Camps and Mazda Motor Corp. Mazda discussed its local roots and how it is shifting toward electrification and smart technologies while maintaining its “man and machine” driving feel.
Officials said they were impressed by Hiroshima’s startup platform and its “Unicorn 10” plan linking government, business, and research. They also visited new baseball stadiums and reviewed public-private partnership models, which they said could inform Taichung’s future major projects.
