TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — The Army held a battalion-level combat readiness exercise Monday to evaluate soldiers’ ability to protect critical infrastructure.
The 584th Armored Brigade deployed M1A2T Abrams tanks as well as Clouded Leopard infantry fighting vehicles and Humvees armed with TOW missiles in Hsinchu early Monday morning, Military News Agency reported.
Troops first conducted equipment checks and vehicle inspections. Upon receiving orders, they reached the designated site and moved into tactical positions.
Soldiers familiarized themselves with their operational environment and vehicle routes. They also practiced joint operations and coordination. The exercise tested commanders’ ability to employ different tactics and respond effectively to evolving situations.
Last week, the Army began conversion training for its second batch of 42 Abrams tanks. The tanks, which arrived in Taiwan in July, were deployed to the Kengzikou proving grounds earlier this month.
Tank crews have been conducting live-fire training day and night to test their gun and targeting systems. Drills include firing at static and moving targets while stationary and while in motion.
