TAIPEI (Taiwan News) – EVA Airways has decided to order four Boeing 787-9 passenger aircraft, continue the lease of four other planes, and upgrade six more, reports said Friday.
The company’s board of directors approved a plan Friday to spend up to NT$60.88 billion (US$1.94 billion) on the new planes, per CNA. The airline will also extend the lease of four Boeing 777-300ER aircraft while upgrading six other planes of the same type for a maximum of NT$4.77 billion.
Including the latest plan, EVA is in the process of upgrading 20 aircraft. The changes are designed to improve the quality of the seating in all classes, the in-flight entertainment systems, and the general environment of the passenger cabins in the 777-300ER planes.
EVA operates 89 aircraft, including cargo planes. By 2033, the airline expected to take delivery of five Boeing 787-9s and four 787-10s. An order of 24 wide-bodied Airbus A350-1000 aircraft is scheduled to start arriving in 2027, with 18 Airbus A321neo narrow-bodied planes following from 2029.
