TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Tunghai University in Taichung launched Taiwan’s first campus-based Nvidia B200 AI computing center on Monday, marking a major upgrade in high-performance computing for education and research.
Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen (盧秀燕) visited the new facility and said it will help push Taichung’s smart city plans and speed up digital transformation, according to the Taichung City Government. She said the center also marks a major boost to AI computing capacity in central Taiwan.
The center runs on Nvidia’s Blackwell platform and is built around HGX B200 servers donated by alumnus Li Shih-chin (李詩欽). Lu said the donation gives students and researchers access to tools that match, or even stay ahead of, industry standards.
AI skills now shape how cities and countries compete, and education must keep pace, Lu said. She praised Tunghai University President Chang Kuo-en (張國恩) for spotting the trend early and securing the board's support to raise funds and bring in partners.
Economic Daily News reported Monday that Taichung and Tunghai University have also partnered to bring AI education to rural areas. Officials said experts are sent to teach basic technology skills and ethics, and the two sides plan to keep working together on education, talent training, and industry cooperation.
