TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Yunlin County police on Wednesday received 16 new patrol and investigation vehicles as the county government continued efforts to support front-line officers.
The county government said Magistrate Chang Li-shan (張麗善) inspected the vehicles at the county's police bureau on Wednesday. Chang said the county is continuing to invest in police equipment.
Over the past year, Chang said police stepped up fraud crackdowns, broke up 166 scam rings and arrested 970 suspects. She said officers seized nearly NT$100 million (US$3.1 million) in illegal gains and stopped 396 scam cases worth more than NT$260 million.
She said drug enforcement also intensified, with police handling 1,340 drug cases and seizing more than 50 kilograms of narcotics. Chang added that Yunlin police earned national recognition for their fraud prevention work.
CNA and UDN reported Wednesday that police data showed nearly half of the bureau’s patrol vehicles were over service age before the upgrade, and the replacement rate has now dropped to about one-third. Three of the new vehicles are hybrid models, while the rest run on gasoline.
Chang said the vehicles are fitted with AI-assisted patrol systems that scan license plates and flag suspicious vehicles within an 8-kilometer range and help officers work faster. She added the county has also spent money in recent years to fix up police stations and improve working conditions for front-line officers.
