TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Yilan experienced a magnitude 5.3 earthquake at 9:31 p.m. on Monday, according to the Central Weather Administration.
The epicenter was located 24.9 kilometers east of Yilan County Hall at a depth of 70.3 kilometers, the CWA said. Taiwan uses a scale of 1 to 7 to measure a quake's intensity at a specific location.
The quake registered a 3 in Yilan County, Taoyuan, and Hsinchu County. An intensity level of 2 was recorded in New Taipei, Hualien County, Taipei, Taichung, Nantou County, Hsinchu, Miaoli County, Changhua County, and Chiayi County.
An intensity level of 1 was reported in Keelung, Taitung County, Yunlin County, Chiayi, and Tainan.
