TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taiwan's Inventec said Thursday it will invest NT$4.3 billion (US$136.3 million) to expand production capacity at its Thailand facilities.
The investment reflects the electronics manufacturer’s ongoing efforts to grow its overseas operations. The project includes plant renovations and equipment upgrades to meet rising demand, according to CTEE.
About NT$1.7 billion will go toward facility improvements and equipment. Another NT$2.6 billion will be used to build a new factory and related infrastructure.
The upgrades aim to support both local notebook production and server manufacturing, driven by increasing demand from US clients seeking to move notebook production outside China. Inventec has already boosted output at its leased and self-built facilities in Thailand.
Thailand-based production remains smaller than output in China. However, it now accounts for a low double-digit percentage of Inventec’s total notebook shipments.
In its artificial intelligence server business, a closely watched segment by investors, most production continues in Taiwan. The company’s Texas factory is scheduled to start operations at the end of the first quarter, with mass production expected in the second quarter.
Inventec will hold its year-end banquet on Tuesday, where Chair Yeh Li-cheng (葉力誠) and President Tsai Chih-an (蔡枝安) are expected to outline the company’s business outlook for the coming year.
