TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Eslite Bookstore said Friday it will close its MetroWalk branch in Zhongli, Taoyuan on Feb. 22 due to an expired lease.
“Together for over 9,000 days, thank you for 25 years of support,” the bookstore said on its website. “Reading never ends. See you in the next exciting chapter.”
Eslite said the closure is part of its regional expansion, per CNA. Nearby branches, including Eslite Spectrum Linkou Store, will continue serving readers.
Eslite Chair Wu Min-jie (吳旻潔) said Eslite has cultivated the Taoyuan market since 1998 and has long sought a standalone flagship. Its Qingpu store in Taoyuan, developed with PCB manufacturer Zhen Ding Technology Group, broke ground in February last year and is set to open in 2028.
Eslite said that while its MetroWalk branch closes, the company is committed to the Taoyuan market. It announced a farewell appreciation event through Feb. 22, offering members NT$100 (US$3.16 ) off every NT$1,000 spent.
