TAIPEI (Taiwan News) — Taichung’s Hsiuping University of Science and Technology on Saturday hosted an in-person esports event that brought together vocational high school teams from across central Taiwan.
Taichung City Government said a team from a Nantou County vocational high school also took part in the event. Sports Bureau Deputy Director-General Hsieh Ming-ju (謝明儒) said the city welcomed schools providing venues and equipment to give students more chances to compete and learn.
“Esports is growing fast and now links tech, creativity, and sports, which is opening up more career paths for students,” Hsieh said. He added that skills tied to esports range from game planning and software work to media design, event operations, and marketing.
The Sports Bureau said the event was backed by universities, tech firms, and the local software park to link classrooms with real-world practice. Officials said the setup helps students try out the industry early, build experience, and prepare for future jobs.
Youth Daily News reported that Taichung has made esports part of its broader sports policy and is rolling out more camps and competitions. The bureau said the city aims to build a steady talent pipeline by working closely with schools and industry partners.
