History
Taiwan News began publication on June 6, 1949, as “China News." Founded by James Wei, it was the first English-language newspaper in Taiwan. Its ongoing mission is to report on both Taiwanese society as well as modern global trends, building a bridge of communication between cultures and nations.
In 1997, the newspaper was purchased by I-Mei Foods Co., and CEO Luis Ko remains the publisher. The name was changed on May 13, 1999, to “Taiwan News” as the paper began to move its focus toward local news.
From 2001 to 2003, Taiwan News published a weekly financial magazine. In 2003, the magazine incorporated content on culture and new issues continued to be published until 2010.
In order to continue to provide the best coverage utilizing the most effective and efficient format, Taiwan News issued its last print edition on March 1, 2015, and switched to an all-digital format.
